Within the Xcode Command Line toolkit, Mac users gain access to numerous useful tools, utilities, and compilers, including make, GCC, clang, perl, svn, git, size, strip, strings, libtool, cpp, and many others.Apple provides a complete development environment for programmers named Xcode. Llvm35 is a bit bleeding edge but the current instructions that install that with brew are: Step 1: make sure you have a recent enough gcc/libc to build clang (may not be necessary for you):Developers need to install Xcode Command Line Tools before they can develop software on a Mac.No developer account needed and you don't need to download the entire and quite large Xcode package of executables. Building Clang and Working with the CodeSo, I'm going to suggest you use brew to do the install along with the dependencies. From Xcode 4.2, Clang is the default compiler for Mac OS X. You can download the release versions from Clang is also provided in all major BSD or GNU/Linux distributions as part of their respective packaging systems. Clang is released as part of regular LLVM releases.

Most developers need programming languages and utilities that don't come installed on macOS and are not included in the Xcode Command Line Tools package. It's significantly slower on Mac Intel over a slow Internet connection.You'll see a confirmation message when installation is complete.Verify that you've successfully installed Xcode Command Line Tools: $ xcode-select -pYou should see the following: /Library/Developer/CommandLineToolsHow to Use Homebrew to Install Xcode Command Line ToolsAs easy as it is to use the command prompt to install Xcode Command Line Tools, I recommend an even easier method: using Homebrew.This option was only recently added to Homebrew, so many developers are not aware of it.Homebrew is the popular Mac package manager.Homebrew installation takes 2 to 15 minutes on a 2021 Mac M1 Mini, with a 100Mbps Internet connection. Press enter when you are done.If you haven't already installed Xcode Command Line Tools, you'll see a message that "The Xcode Command Line Tools will be installed." Press return to continue when prompted by the Homebrew installation script.You’ll see diagnostic and progress messages. Password:You won't see the characters as you type. This is the password you use to sign in to your Mac. $ /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL )"The Homebrew installation script will ask you to enter your Mac user password. On Mac Intel, Homebrew installs itself into the /usr/local/bin directory, which is already configured for access by the shell with the macOS default $PATH.On Apple Silicon machines, there's one more step.
